Treat the warning as a timeline
Record which lamp or message appeared first, the operating conditions, mileage and hours, recent regeneration history, DEF level, any engine-performance issue, and when the derate changed. The sequence can be more diagnostic than a single current code.
Information to capture
- All active and inactive fault codes
- Dash messages and lamp colors
- DEF level and any recent fill
- Whether a parked regen is requested or inhibited
- Power or speed limitation currently active
- Recent engine, exhaust, sensor, or aftertreatment repair
Why a regen may be blocked
The control system may prevent or stop regeneration because of an engine fault, sensor or wiring problem, exhaust leak, temperature condition, dosing fault, fuel level, safety interlock, or excessive soot estimate. Forcing a process without understanding the block can waste time or cause damage.
Do not tamper with the system
Emissions-system defeat, deletion, or bypass is not offered. The repair path should restore the factory-designed system and identify engine-side problems that create excess soot or recurring aftertreatment faults.
Call before the derate becomes critical
Progressive warnings may reduce available options. Arrange diagnosis early, especially before entering a remote route, grade, heavy traffic, or a time-sensitive load assignment.
